Maternity clothes, so not sexy.

So, I'm jumping on this bandwagon a little late, as my plan is to chronicle my new creative endeavors along with my first pregnancy and I am already through the first trimester, 16 weeks to be exact, but better late than never as they say.

So far, it hasn't been that bad. The only real side effect I have had is that of being unreasonably tired. So much so, that by the time 5:30 rolls around I have already washed my face, donned my pajamas and can barely keep my eyes open while watching Discovery Health or Nat Geo. My doctor has promised me that the sleepiness will subside and it has, a little, now the same thing happens every night at 7:30 thus buying me a little more time.

Everywhere I turn these days, I read and hear about "morning sickness" it is also, coincidentally, the one thing everyone asks about. I haven't had it once. Thank God. I don't want it, don't wish it on anyone and don't want to hear about it ever again. I love food and the thought of not being able to eat it makes me sad, on the other hand, the thought of gaining 30 plus pounds also makes me sad. Par for the course, I suppose. By the way, my doctor told me that about 25% of women do not get morning sickness(which I have also learned does not just happen in the morning, it can happen at any time, or if you are really lucky, all day long). I happen to fall into that percentile so, lucky me.

What I am throughly UNEXCITED about however, is maternity clothes. Good Lord! I tried on a shirt the other day that looked like a pillowcase, I couldn't get it off quick enough. I don't enjoy the concept of jeans that have elastic waists. I feel like I am prepping myself to pig out at a grand buffet in Vegas. What's next, velcro shoes and a fanny pack? I am also not interested in spending a ton of money on things I will wear for a fleeting moment of time, and I do not have the energy to go trolling around town through consignment shops and malls. I refuse to buy into the maternity clothes racket. If you want to spend $70 on a shirt you can wear for 3 weeks, be my guest. I, on the other hand, would rather spend that money on a pedicure and lunch with friends.

Bad news for me, last week, it was time. I could no longer wear my clothes with confidence. The pants were getting a little too snug, the shirts a little too tight and I had to break down. My first thought was, "buy a pair of cheap regular pants in a larger size", so I went to Old Navy and what do you know, low and behold, they have a maternity section!! Who knew? I for one, did not. This was exciting stuff ladies. You want to know why? Not only did I get jeans for $12, but I got shirts for $6, $7, basically, 4 new outfits for under $100. Now THAT is something I CAN work with. Don't get me wrong, these clothes aren't runway material, but they will do the job and do it well. I must admit to you all that the comfort level is quite enjoyable once I got over the "expandable waist".
